Fall into November with us!

Can you feel the brisk fall air... or did the snowfall before Halloween confuse you? Our first magazine received many great raves from clients, readers and and we received a few product review requests. We are honored by the creditbility instilled in us and will definitely offer our honest opinion as a salon brand. We thank you again for reading our virtual magazine and excited to bring you these two new columns for November!Fashion 5-0 by Leanna Kyles where she will define her latest trends in styles not to mention the Do's and Don'ts the way she sees it. Our Salon News...

October was a great month... Really it was!

In addition to our new columns, We would also like to introduce you to our New Stylist that joined us in October, Her name is Velta Moore. She comes to us from the Paul Mitchell School in Tysons Corner and was also active in the Creative Design Team giving her exposure and insight into the Fashion and Beauty Shows that we so love to do! Please do join us in welcoming her on your next visit!

October was a busy month. Lets re-cap! We were at The W Hotel for our Fashion Show on 10/19, We visited Broadminded Broads at Sirius XM Radio in DC, Attended the I AM MODERN Magazine Luncheon at the Beautiful Light Foot Restaurant in Leesburg... and in Celebration of Halloween, We held our Annual W Salon Costume Contest for Employees. Characters that visited us were Beetle Juice, Michael Jackson, Thing 1 and Thing 2, Katy Perry, Fallen Angels, Gypsies, Cats & Tigers running around the salon and a Hair Cop that was NOT giving out tickets for bad hair, I mean they were at the W Salon of course!

November is another exciting month, we'll be out at Smith Commons for Wellta's Premiere Collection Event Showing on 11/5, Be Sure to Join us from 8-10pm as this is a free public event! We'll have photos in our December Issue for those that can't make it...

The W Salon Team at The W Hotel...The team alongside w/Ink Cosmetics, key'd the look for the 3 featured designers for the nights show. The Creative Team lead by Megan Mosig with her team, Leanna, Cindy, Tori, Vicky, Lauren, Ann, and Jong. A little about the event, An Evening of Fashion at the W benefiting the Childrens National Medical Center. The event featured designs from Red Chapter Clothing, Donovan England and Tsyndyma. Great performances by International sensation Jason Cerda, Kid Entertainer Alec Fadoul and Kid Jazz Guitar Musician Isaiah Lemons. We were delighted to have Jorge Andres Sports Anchor from Telemundo and Britt Mc Henry Sport... Anchor from ABC as host of the evening. A special host who appeared in the show Project Runway from Bravo delighted us with his presence Aaron Machado. Event was produced by Ninos Rising in association with Bragg Models and us MUNDOVISION MEDIA.

WE RAISED $175 IN OCTOBER FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS...We Would like to Thank Those that purchased the $2.00 Vouchers to help support the Mission of the Tigerlily Foundation. The Mission of Tigerlily Foundation is to Educate, advocate for, empower and provide hands-on services and support to young women (15-40), before, during and after breast cancer. 2011 Fall Hairstyles and Hair Trends. Two of the biggest hair trends for fall 2011 includes the look of braids, and retro styles. These hairstyles were seen countless times by designers on the runway, and we're also seeing them worn by celebrities on the red carpets. Braids can be worn to the sides of one head, or try something unique by adding multiple braids to create your own look this fall. Braids are super easy and fun to do. Messy fishtail braid looks chic and cool, See our Quick 3 Minute How To Video of a Fish Tail Braid. Also, Retro styles from pinup curls to bouffants and big teased hair are all major trends for fall 2011, and have been seen on celebs such as Sara Jessica Parker and Rihanna just to name a few. In honor of Thanksgiving...

In honor of Thanksgiving, We thought to share this cute and quick recipe for making Turkey Gobbling Cupcakes we found online.

We hope the little ones find this rather amusing and fun to eat!
Easy Peasy InstructionsTo make each turkey, press the lower portion of a Nutter Butter cookie into a frosted cupcake for the bird's head.Use tiny dabs of frosting to stick on mini-chocolate chip eyes and a red fruit leather wattle.For each turkey's tail, use a butter knife to cut out a dozen feather shapes (about 3 inches long and 1 inch wide) from fruit leather.Lay 6 of the feather shapes on a flat surface and place a wooden toothpick lengthwise atop each so that one end of the toothpick extends about an inch below the feather. Layer another fruit leather feather layer atop each of the 6 shapes, sandwiching the toothpicks between them.Press the 2 layers together to make them stick, then fringe the edges of the feather with a butter knife. Now your child can stick the colored feathers into the cupcake behind the cookie head.

Taking Care of Yourself...
High heels seem to be as popular as ever. So why are high heels considered bad news for your back? In simple terms your feet are your foundations. They contain the primary shock absorber for the entire body, most commonly known as the arch of the foot. The heel and forefoot are also designed to sit at the same level – makes sense if you want to have a stable base. So what happens when you slip on those Blahniks, Choos or even harmless enough looking Russell and Bromleys.High heel shoes not only change the position of the foot but naturally impact on the way in which the foot goes on to function which can over a longer time come back to affect the structure.The high heel position places an increased amount of strain on the forefoot which can result in hammer toes and possibly bunions, not very sexy! But even more importantly it takes out the slack from the arch which in the normal foot would dissipate the force of each step from travelling up the leg to impact on the ankle, knee, hip and back joints.The changed foot position causes the muscles of the calf to shorten, and makes the muscles around the knee and hip work much harder. Now although this may sound like a good way to have a work out, it is never that simple. The effects of the changed foot position are amplified the higher up we go. Your back is designed to be a particular shape, the curve/hollow at the base of the back along with the curve/rounded midback are designed to cancel each other out thus acting as a shock absorber – all very clever. Unfortunately the high heels cause the wearer to change the position in which their back is held. Here are some tips to help you keep your joints comfortable whilst still enjoying your favourite shoes. 1) Choose your heels wisely: in simple terms the smaller the heel the less impact it is likely to have on your body. Once you are over 1.5 to 2 inches the verdict seems to be that you are likely to experience an even greater set of problems.2) Favour flat shoes for day to day wear and only wear your prize heels on special occasions or when you are not on your feet very often. 3) Wear trainers or supportive shoes when travelling to and from work, you’ll be much comfier.4) Make sure you have the right size shoe to fit your foot. Even narrow toe boxes can result in a pinching of the nerves around your toes which can give severe pain.5) Always choose leather shoes over synthetic alternatives as they tend to adapt to your foot and be more comfortable.6) Strengthen your spine even if you are not currently suffering. Core muscle training such as Pilates or the rehabilitation exercises can help achieve this.7) Stretch your calf, hip and back muscles to keep yourself supple and minimize the chances of getting pain. I

Make It Faux
As the weather cools down, its time to warm up! What better way to stay warm with faux fur. Thats right ladies say no to real fur, and yes with animal friendly faux fur. Not only is faux more affordable it is also ethical. This fall, you can wear this look just about any way; vest, jacket, hat, or gloves, just dont go overboard and you will be a DO! The fashion industry has finally given in. With the amount of protests from groups like PETA and the amount of red paint thrown at the fashion folk, This Season - Fur is Fake. It all started last year with Karl Lagerfelds take on the trend with Chanel, and eventually made its way to every show. As soon as Fall Arrived, people are rushing to the nearest store and grabbing some fabulous faux.Many people cant even tell the difference between real and faux, so when people ask you if your fur is real, you can proudly tell them it is faux, Now that's Style!Check out some of my finds from High to Low, Depending on your stylish budget...Just some fav's I found from Nordstrom and Forever 21!

Just a Thought...

If you are grateful, you will see the world differently. Life is full of challenges and struggles, Finding balance is so crucial for me... One important key for me, is being a grateful person and appreciating the things you already have in life. We are so quick to ask for more and losing sight of the value of what we already have. Being a grateful person, You will see that there are always good things behind everything that happens. You will realize that your life is wonderful, and everything you need and want.... you already have. Realize How "Rich" You Already AreOften we think that we need more and more money to determine happiness. Chance is, you probably are more rich than most people you know. I have always believed that god will only give you what you can handle. Be Happy You have Your HealthIf you don't have your health, You can't make those deadlines, events, social gatherings, etc... So realize that your health is really, really, really a blessing, and to be grateful for not being strickened with an illness, disease, or cancer that most are facing daily. Always look for the Good before that Bad.We tend to see the bad things that happen in our life much quicker; and overlook the good things. Even small things matter. If someone calls you a friend, thats something you should be grateful for. When a child smiles at you, know that there is much good and innocense in this world and that not everyone is out to get you. Surround Yourself with Positive PeopleIts hard for you to be grateful if the people you meet are mostly negative. Surround yourself with positive people and it will be much easier and natural for you to be a grateful person with positive thinking. Decide to Be GratefulEventually its up to you to decide whether or not you want to be a more grateful person. No one said Change is easy.. But this new outlook can surprise you in a very good way.

Our Contest...

Halloween Came and Went...for the W Salon.

We held our Annual Employee Costume Contest and we had many characters show up!

Michael Jackson was resurrected, Thing 1 and Thing 2 picked a fight with BeetleJuice, We had a Hair Cop show up and Lots of Cats and Tigers running around the salon... It was an eventful day and we've got the pictures to prove it.

Playing With Makeup!

Try these Fall Choco-Tini Colors by Ink Cosmetics....

Choco-tini Shadow Palette
Step 1: Clean, tone and moisturize your face. Top with and SPF of at least 30.Step 2: Conceal any dark circles and/or blemishes.Step 3: Apply a thin layer of oil-free liquid foundation using the foundation brush on the uneven tones of your skin. Trick here is to not overdue it. You aren't going out clubbing or on a hot date for goodness sake! Step 4: Using your powder brush apply oil-control powder all over your face and neck.Step 5: Apply shad0w base to your lids to help prevent creasing.Step 6: Invest in a great bronze/brown shadow palette and start with the lightest color first. Add the color all over your lid. Enhance the corners of your eyes with a medium tone shadow using the fluff/smudge brush. Step 7: Fill in your brow using an angled liner brush and the dark brown color of your shadow palette.Step 8: Line the inner rim of your eye with a cream liner only. You want your make up to be subtle and natural. Use your darker liners only on the top lash line when desired. Add waterproof mascara on top and bottom lashes. Finishing with a quick curl using a quality lash curler.Step 9: Apply a peachy bronze blush on your cheek bones.Step 10: Complete you natural battlefield beauty look with a pretty pinkish tinted lip gloss. Use a tinted chap stick if you will be out on extended missions. This will help keep your lips moist and prevent chapping.Ladies, deployments are difficult! Don't let yourself get lost in the action! Don't forget can still feel beautiful! Do so will keep help keep your morale up and your skin maintained!
